Developing imaginative New Worlds

We are a UK based indie game studio dedicated to building imaginative and immersive video games using the latest technologies. We are primarily a Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 oriented developer, but also release our games on PC, Steam Deck and XBOX.

Jake Jackson - Director & Project Lead

Jake Jackson (Bachelor of Arts) is a long time veteran in the video game industry. Since the age of 16, he’s been developing software with primary experience in C# and web platforms. Since 2021, he is the Director of Spacefarer Games and Project Leader.

Jake-Gibson French - Design & QA

Jake-Gibson French (Another Jake!) joined us in June 2025 and we welcome him to the Spacefarer Family. He specializes in Quality Assurance and is also a fellow designer of our video games.

Spacefarer was established in August of 2021, by game industry veteran, Jake Jackson. It is a private registered limited liability (LTD) company in the United Kingdom. In September 2021, we release our first title, The Dawning Clocks of Time, followed by the next five years in which we have developed new IP and Franchises, such as Georgie-Yolkie and Bunnimon. Our most popular title is Jacob's Quest.

In May of 2025, the company was restructured after recent administration. Spacefarer (Previously Spacefarer R&D) is now Spacefarer Games (Trading Style Spacefarer (Registered Trademark for Video Game Company in the UK)

Our Mission is to deliver quality and exciting titles for Nintendo platforms, and commiting to release ports for PC and XBOX platforms.

The worlds in the games need to be inspiring, though provoking, imaginative and fun with stylistic graphics.

We also aim to spiritually remaster some new titles for top AAA studios, as it's what we do best!

We have introduced a range of clever innovations through reshaping how indie studios approach development, publishing, and storytelling. Here are some standout contributions:

  • Narrative-first development: Jake began with a novella (The Dawning Clocks of Time) and built a game around it, flipping the usual gameplay-first approach. This method encourages deeper emotional engagement and thematic cohesion.
  • Dual-character mechanics: In Georgie-Yolkie, players control two quirky protagonists with complementary abilities, adding strategic depth and comedic flair.
  • Upgradeable abilities with lore integration: Shimazu – The Revenge of a Samurai features powers like Ken Jutsu and Henso Jutsu, each tied to Japanese mythology and upgradeable through in-game currency.
  • Multi-platform optimization: Spacefarer titles are designed for Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, PC, and Xbox, with tailored performance for each—especially Steam Deck compatibility.
  • Spiritual remastering: Jake’s studio remasters titles for AAA developers, blending indie creativity with mainstream polish.
  • Dual-arm business model: He runs both a development studio and a publishing house (Dark Design Studio Holdings), streamlining distribution and supporting other indie creators.
  • Retro-modern aesthetic fusion: Games feature cel-shading, voxel art, and widescreen formats that evoke nostalgia while feeling fresh.
  • Manual-style worldbuilding: Titles often include in-game manuals and lore pages, enhancing immersion and giving players a tactile sense of discovery.

Jake’s innovations aren’t just technical—they’re philosophical. He’s proving that small studios can be bold, cinematic, and emotionally resonant. Want to explore how these ideas could evolve in future Spacefarer titles?

We are a trusted third party Nintendo Switch developer with 5 years of experience in the field.

We also develop ports for PC and XBOX.

Some of our biggest partners are Microsoft, Valve, GOG.com (CD PROJEKT) and work with other indie game studio developers to publish ports for Nintendo Switch.

In June 2025, it is now our policy to employ game security. With our experience in cybersecurity, we are also offering our Indie Partners this solution. We are also running campaigns alongside the UK Government to help protect a struggling video game industry that's seen a new target of piracy - indie developers.
